Monday night, Sigma Kappa alumnae joined our Zeta Mu lovelies for a conversation workshop to prep for recruitment. We had a great time getting to know our collegiate sisters. The collegians and Darlene have put a lot of hard work into prepping for the big event this weekend and they are going to rock it! They asked our alumnae panel some questions that certainly made me reach into the corners of my brain to recall my own recruitment. I was so excited after I left; I called one of my dear friends from the Phoenix Alumnae Chapter to revel in recruitment memories (and to brag about our Zeta Mu girls!).
Going into preference night as a potential new member, I was really confused about which house I was going to choose as my #1. All three houses were fantastic and I loved each one throughout the four previous days of recruitment. At the Sigma Kappa party, I was greeted warmly at the door by Rae, an alumna who was poised, graceful and embodied the type of woman I hoped to become one day. I sat at a table with Jamie and had true sister-like conversation that came without any awkwardness. We were served a sparkling punch in champagne flutes with frozen fruit to garnish. Towards the end of the party I had a lone grape sitting in the bottom of the glass. Jaime smiled and said, as if reading my mind, “I know you want to eat the grape in bottom. Just reach in and get it”. So we both reached in and pulled out the fruit from the bottom of our glasses and laughed. It’s an odd thing, very unlady-like and I don’t recommend it as a recruitment tactic- but that is when I knew Sigma Kappa was the place I was going to feel the most comfortable, the most at home.
This weekend, our collegiate sisters and potential new members will be making recruitment memories of their own. I wish them all the best and hope everyone finds the place they feel at home. What are some of your favorite recruitment memories? Leave a comment; I’d love to hear them…..
The chapter enjoyed a fantastic happy hour at the swanky Wet Stone Wine Bar in downtown San Diego. It was the perfect end to a workday and a great way meet new Sigmas. Here are some fun photos of the event taken by the amazing Emily!
Welcome to the inaugural post for The Sigma Kappa La Jolla Alumnae Chapter Blog! I hope this will be a place for chapter members to get the latest buzz on chapter events. I'm new to the San Diego area and to the La Jolla Alumnae Chapter so I look forward to meeting all of you at upcoming events.
It was around this time many years ago, I was a fresh-faced college girl who just barely turned 18 when my parents sent me out into the world at Arizona State University. Lucky for me, I attended a sorority recruitment information night during orientation week and signed up for recruitment. I had no idea how much that decision would change my life. Sigma Kappa brought me some of my most treasured memories, best friends and important life skills.
After being uninvolved with Sigma Kappa for a few years I'm excited to be back and serving on an executive council with some amazing and energetic women. We have great things in the works for re-energizing the chapter so stay tuned......
