The Zeta Mu Chapter hosted a delightful Founders Day Celebration at the UCSD campus on November 3. Area alumnae from both the La Jolla and San Diego chapters attended the event. We had a delicious dinner catered by Crouton's (so good!!). The Zeta Mu girls gave a lovely presentation on Sigma Kappa history and our five founders. Then it was time for some Sigma Kappa trivia (with fun prizes!!) and questions were answered by new members, actives and alumnae. And Founders Day wouldn't be complete without a giant purple cake - oh that sugary icing gets me every time! Snaps to the Zeta Mu Vice President of Alumnae Relations, Michelle, for her hard work putting together the event - she is amazing! All the alumnae had a great time connecting and reminiscing. And, as you can see by the top photo....we still know how to do the sorority pose for photos. Some things never leave you.
As I reflect on our founders this week, I am always impressed by those 5 young women who created an organization that has stood the test of time for 137 years. I am grateful for Frances, Ida, Louise, Mary and Elizabeth. Their examples of courage, strength and sisterhood are quite humbling. I wonder if they ever dreamed, as they sat along the banks of the Messalonskee River, that Sigma Kappa would become the nearly 150,000 member worldwide organization it is today. Who is your favorite founder? Leave a comment and share with us. Love, C
