![]() Freshman orientation 2003. My mother is walking around talking to the sororities with their tables set up, trying to recruit new freshman. I couldn't be more embarrassed and tried to hide when she talked with them. Thinking to myself, "I will never join a sorority, ever." Flash forward to about three weeks into school. I felt completely alone in the dorms. I didn't know anyone, mostly boys lived on my floor and the girls were just into partying. I saw more flyers all over campus for fall recruitment. I needed friends! Why not just give it a try? I was a legacy for a few sororities, however my mother was a Sigma Kappa at California State University, Chico (Delta Iota). So naturally I wanted to hate them because I cannot, will not join the sorority my mother did! Gosh no! But...I met the Sigma Kappa ladies and felt an instant connection. It's the only sorority I looked forward to visiting during the recruitment. I was thrilled on bid day to find they had picked me too! I had to tell my mother, who was just as excited as I was. I made forever friends in my pledge class and more every year thereafter. I was so involved, I eventually became President! I changed so much in those four years, I wish I had listened to my mother in the first place. Sigma Kappa's really are the best gals around!
