![]() I attended the University of Kansas and joined Sigma Kappa my freshman year. I really liked the idea of finding a special place where I belonged and was accepted, and Sigma Kappa did it for me! I lived in the SK house my sophomore, junior, and senior year and loved it - it was extremely close to campus, fun to be around my sisters all the time, and had a great chef. My senior year I was honored to have been voted Senior of the Year for our chapter, as well as Appointed Officer of the Year for KU Panhellenic (I was Greek Environmental Board Co-Chair). I made lifelong friends in SK and am still in touch with many of them today. I have met other SKs in random places, which I love. The summer before my senior year of college, I interned at an architecture and interior design firm in Atlanta and one of the interior designers was a SK! Now I work as a professional Wedding Coordinator in San Diego and a few years ago I randomly found out that one of my clients (brides) was a SK along with all of her bridesmaids -- I discovered it on her wedding day when they were all wearing SK shirts while getting their hair and makeup done! In recent years, I became a mom, joined a mom group, and found out that one of the other moms is a SK. So cool!!! College: University of Kansas Chapter: Xi Pledge Year: 1998 Current location: San Diego (Bay Park neighborhood) Fun fact: I have been walking in the Alzheimer's Association Walk and fundraising for it for 12 years, since I moved to San Diego in 2002! Rachel Welland is just one of the many successful products of Sigma Kappa. Contrary to the connotation of beibg part of a group like this, Rachel is now a successful wedding coordinator, and there are lots of professionals like her who are also part of Sigma Kappa! They joined the group because they are in search of a strong support system; people would always be there to support ands understand them regardless of how complicated the circumstance may be!
